John Chapter 12 Study Notes

Topics discussed included;  Mary at Jesus‘ feet, Dying to oneself to bear much fruit (Old Man/New Man), the word hate (miseo in Greek) in the Bible, Judicial Darkness, Isaiah 53 (and how it is hidden from Jewish religion), Praying in Tongues (not mandatory for a believer, but should be highly desired), and Jesus‘ last public speech (John 44-50).

v1 only 6 days before Jesus‘ death on Passover
v2 supper was at Simon the Leper’s house as we see from  Matthew 26:6-16 and Mark 14:3-11.  It was in Jesus‘ honor
v3-6 ointment was 300 days wages (very expensive).  Judas laments over the lost ‘money’, see 1 Tim 6: 7-10 “For the love of money is the root of all evil”.  We see in Mark and Matthew how Judas goes on to betray Jesus shortly after this incident for 30 pieces of silver.

Note that every time we see Mary, she is at Jesus‘ feet.  When Jesus visits them the first time in Luke 10, Martha is a busybody but Mary just spends time at Jesus‘ feet.  When Jesus raises Lazarus, again, Mary cries at his feet.  Finally, in John 12, she is pouring the oil on Jesus‘ feet and wiping his feet with her hair.  The main point here, is that simply spending time with Jesus, in prayer, in humility, is held in high regard.

v13 is a reference to Psalm 118:26 “Blessed is He who comes in the name of the LORD (YHUH)”.  God has a name, and it is not Lord (a title).  As discussed before, Jesus (Yahusha) comes bearing God’s name (Yahuah, often represented by the tetragrammation YHWH or more properly YHUH).  Yahu = I AM, Sha = Saves.  God saves his people, and that is how you will know He is God (the Pharisees were blind to this).
v15 is a reference to Zechariah 9:9, also prophetic that Jesus is Messiah, thy King will come into Jerusalem riding upon a donkey.

Psalm 118.26

Fathers (God) name

23 And Jesus answered them, saying, The hour is come, that the Son of man should be glorified.
24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a grain of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit.
25 He that loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal.
26 If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will my Father honour. John 12: 23-26

27 Now is my soul troubled; and what shall I say? Father, save me from this hour: but for this cause came I unto this hour.
28 Father, glorify thy name. Then came there a voice from heaven, saying, I have both glorified it, and will glorify it again.
29 The people therefore, that stood by, and heard it, said that it thundered: others said, An angel spake to him.
30 Jesus answered and said, This voice came not because of me, but for your sakes.
31 Now is the judgment of this world: now shall the prince of this world be cast out.
32 And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me.

v23 Jesus is speaking here in front of the Jewish people, his disciples, and Greeks (representing the nations/gentiles).  His hour is now coming (earlier in John he was saying his hour has not yet come).
v24-26 He is dying to Himself, and in that process He will bear much fruit, not only for Israel, but the whole world.  He encourages us to follow this same example, dying to ourself in order to bear much fruit.  Paul will carry on this teaching much further, but as a simple intro…

Body Soul Spirit

Spirit man

We consist of Body, Soul and Spirit.  Body and Soul make up our Outer Man,  Spirit makes up our Inner Man.  We are meant over time to die to ourselves, to become less of us and more of Him.  As we do that, God is more capable of letting His love and own Spirit to flow through us.  We were meant to be His vessels on this earth, to work through and reach others.  There are things that are in us, that Satan will use, to limit God in our lives.  Unless we are willing to let those things go, we can never be a suitable vessel for God to work through.  For more teaching on this, one can study Watchman Nee, https://biblesnet.com/Watchman%20Nee%20The%20Spiritual%20Man.pdf  It is very in-depth, but if you can make your way through it, it will increase your understanding of what God expects from a fully mature Christian believer.

v28-30 The same voice spoke to all, but they were discerned differently.  Just like with Jesus‘ parables, some understood the meaning behind them, some did not.
v31-32 I can’t stress the Michael Heiser teaching enough: https://www.celebration.org/supernatural-sessions/  As Christians, it’s crucial we understand the Supernatural realm, and what God is trying to do through Jesus.  In Deuteronomy 32 (The Dead Sea Scrolls version, which is closest to the original scriptures, not what’s in the altered Masoretic text) we see that at Babel, God divides the land among the 70 sons of God (other Elohim) giving them each their separate land, language and people to watch over (Think the Prodigal Son story from Luke).  In Psalm 82, these Elohim, do not do their roles properly, and eventually, Jesus is sent to draw all men back to Him.  Only Jesus is King, and the only one that should be lifted up, no one else.

He that loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal. John 12:25

If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple. Luke 14:26

As it is written, Jacob have I loved, but Esau have I hated. Romans 9:13

No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon. Matthew 6:24

And when the LORD saw that Leah was hated, he opened her womb: but Rachel was barren. Gen 29:31

Just a quick note on the Greek word for hatemiseo.  In Hebrew, it is sane’.  The meaning of hate in these languages is different than our meaning for hate today.  It was more of a comparative, and is better expressed as “love(d) less”
3404 miséō – properly, to detest (on a comparative basis); hence, denounce; to love someone or something less than someone (something) else, i.e. to renounce one choice in favor of another.

34 The people answered him, We have heard out of the law that Christ abideth for ever: and how sayest thou, The Son of man must be lifted up? who is this Son of man?
35 Then Jesus said unto them, Yet a little while is the light with you. Walk while ye have the light, lest darkness come upon you: for he that walketh in darkness knoweth not whither he goeth.
36 While ye have light, believe in the light, that ye may be the children of light. These things spake Jesus, and departed, and did hide himself from them.

Jesus is the light of this world.  People can choose whether to dwell closer to that light, or go far off into the darkness.  Jesus doesn’t make the choice for people, but will reinforce what they choose.  As people wander farther off into darkness, eventually Jesus (the light) is hid from them completely (Judicial Darkness).

Isaiah 53, as referenced in John 12:38.

1 Who hath believed our report? and to whom is the arm of the LORD revealed?
2 For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him.
3 He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.
4 Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.
5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.
6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.
7 He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth.
8 He was taken from prison and from judgment: and who shall declare his generation? for he was cut off out of the land of the living: for the transgression of my people was he stricken.
9 And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death; because he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth.
10 Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in his hand.
11 He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities.
12 Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he hath poured out his soul unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.

This is an extremely detailed and accurate description of Messiah.  It is purposely not read in Jewish synagogues for if it was, they would all become Messianic Jews.  Again, the Pharisees (religious leaders), are like thieves, come to steal, kill and destroy this knowledge from the people.  In the following youtube video, a Messianic Jew goes about to Jerusalem to share Isaiah 53, the Forbidden Chapter.  See what happens… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cGz9BVJ_k6s

44 Jesus cried and said, He that believeth on me, believeth not on me, but on him that sent me.
45 And he that seeth me seeth him that sent me.
46 I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me should not abide in darkness.
47 And if any man hear my words, and believe not, I judge him not: for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world.
48 He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.
49 For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father which sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak.
50 And I know that his commandment is life everlasting: whatsoever I speak therefore, even as the Father said unto me, so I speak. John 12:44-50

Jesus‘ last public speech before his crucifixion.  He basically summarizes his entire ministry thus far.
v44 Whoever trusts me, trusts the Father
v45 Whoever sees me, sees the Father
v46 I am the light, choose me over darkness
v47 I did not come to judge the world but to save it (John 1:17)

v48 For the world is already judged (by the Law)

v49 I speak only from the Father
v50 I speak the Father’s commandment for everlasting life (John 3:16-19)

Renew our Mind), before we can go on to receive and use His gifts.  This is a process we all go through as believers)

Dr. Carrie Madej’s recent video talking about the jabs, metaverse, digital ID, depopulation etc and how shortly after it’s release, she gets in a very suspicious plane crash.  Anyways, here’s the links to the video and some news about the crash.  I do believe her info is quite accurate and the type of stuff certain people would want suppressed.  I applaud her love for God in the video and her fearlessness.  I sincerely believe God’s hand was over her protecting her and things could have been a lot worse.
